Coops

Your hens will need a coop, where they sleep and lay their eggs.

• About 2-3 sq. ft. of open floor space per bird
• Roosting bar for sleeping
• Nesting box(es) — 1 box for every 4 hens
• Ventilation without draft — chickens produce water vapor when they breathe
• Chicken door for them to get out to the yard
• Human access to the inside of the coop for cleaning
• Natural light — exposure to natural light influences egg production
• Located in a well-drained area
• Positioned for shade in the summer and sunlight in the winter
• Predator-safe yard — covered on top and all sides with chicken wire/mesh
