Manure
Manure
- Chickens poop a lot, so if they are kept in a coop yard most of the time you will want to rake up the yard every few days. You can lay down pine chips or straw as well.
- Chickens also poop in their sleep, so you need to have some method to keep the coop floor clean. You can throw fresh straw or chips over the nightly deposits and clean out the coop on an occassional basis or clean every day.
- Chicken manure makes great compost but must age for a year before going on the garden, due to the high Nitrogen content.
- You may be able to put your straw/manure combo out with the lawn waste (in large brown lawn bags) for your township to collect.
- I put several bags of manure on Craigslist and got takers right away, so check with your neighbors. They may want your chicken manure!
